Nursery Designs for Owen

So, I think I finally can reveal Owen's nursery.  My husband wanted a sports theme but looking online for inspiration I swear nothing was subtle with a sports theme, it had to be over the top and everywhere you looked.  I wanted to have hints of a sports theme but have the nursery have a traditional cute look so... here we go!

Organizing Tips for your Baby's Closet

If you are looking to organize your baby's closet, here are some tips that might help you along the way.  I redid the closet a few times and could have used some tips.

1) Do you like having your things laid out or hidden (bins)? For me, I bought BINS

I love when things are organized and everything isn't out in the open.  I prefer boxes/bins which, I admit, can take a little more time taking things in and out, but it helps me keep organize and know where everything is.  So my first step was to buy boxes/bins.  I got these from Zulily in different sizes of what would fit into the closet. I made sure they were durable, neutral color to be used in other locations in the house later on if needed.

2) What things are going to be in the closet or in other places in the nursery?

Do you have other places to store your baby's things? If you have a changing table, you probably will have the diapers and wipes right there for convenience, if you have a dresser and want to only keep clothes in there you don't need to add clothes in the closet.  Find out what makes sense and what is more convenient.
Anyway, I laid out all of the baby's things in the middle of the floor and started sorting.

3) Sort the closet items

Since I had different bin sizes I figured out what things would go in which boxes by laying everything in the middle of the floor and sorting them into piles then picking the box that would match the size. I also remembered that I haven't bought everything for the baby so I also estimated how many more onesies, blankets, etc. I would be adding to the closet/bins.

4) Label up

Labels are an easy way to know what things are in each box.  It doesn't help only me, but others who might come in looking for things. I used a blue that would match with the rest of the nursery and could easily be replaced if in the future we would have a little girl.

I used the Silhouette to cut out the shadow and words in vinyl.

Right now here is a look of the closet. Usually you can't change the structure of the closet, but everything inside can have a certain place and purpose in the closet.

Tamera and Adam's Celebrity Nursery

I came across this beautiful nursery from celebrity Tamera and Adam on Style Network.  I loved the accents they put throughout the room and their baby blue and tan colors.  They also didn't have an enormous room for this nursery, so it was more relatable for us regular people who want to decorate a room like this.

I think my favorite thing in this room is the "A" initial.  I love the subtle blue color with white and how this would look great in any room as the baby grows up.  I think the A by itself would look a little boring/small for the wall, but having the striped pattern on the wall along with the two framed stars on the side really filled up the space without too much crowding.  If you look around there are many cute accessories from the teddy bears and amazing trunk perfect to keep all of the baby toys in.
This window in the corner of the room would be awkward designing, but the curtains help even it out to make it look even.

Love this changing table, I love how it's not just one color but has a brown top and the drawers are outlined in the same color.  You can see the red star lights around the mirror (and if you look closely, you can see a cute baby jersey hung up by a blue star) a pop of this red brings your eyes to that point and helps the room give a pop of color. They used red a few times very subtly.

And here we are back to the crib! What a fun nursery for their little baby.

Neutral Nurseries

There is something really beautiful about using neutral colors in a nursery. When done right, there is an expensive feeling and a feeling of elegance and luxury. Recently I've been pinning these beautiful neutral nurseries and here are some of my favorites:

This nursery is from homeimprovementpin.com.  I love the furniture and big pieces they used which already looked elegant and added so much to the room.  They definitely went all out from the chunky white mirror, large chandelier, fur rug, and shiny silver changing table.  There is so much interest and texture all around this room.

There is a little more contrast in this nursery from the floor and wall.  This nursery featured on Project nursery  has white/tan furniture pieces and very light/white bedding to keep everything calm.

This neutral nursery uses white and light browns throughout the room.  I love the pieces of interest like the canopy over the bed, elegant chair, and cute teddy bears all around. From:  littleemmaenglishhome.blogspot.com

LOVE this neutral elegant nursery.  Things that are symmetrical are pleasing to the eye and give a settling feeling.  This crib is placed in the middle of the two windows that are equally curtained and have some minor detailing to draw your eyes as a focal point. From: babybedding.com

I love this neutral nursery because of the textures you find throughout the space. From the wall designs, crib and blanket patterns, and the amazing rug and back of the crib, there are so many things to catch the eye and avoid a 'boring' approach.  From: Pottery Barn Kids

And last on our list of neutral nurseries is this white elegant nursery from rhbabyandchild.com.  White furniture and pretty much white accessories throughout the room.  The wall, rug, and bedding have a slight color to them, but they definitely wanted to have this nursery stay neutral.

Organization ideas for baby closets

Are you an organized person? Like to know where every little item is in your house and if you need something right away you can go right to the correct location and find it? Well, I'm like that. I like to not only keep things clean, but organized.
Here are some ideas of what you can do to organize your baby closet.
Image from: http://conejoclosetdesigns.com/closets-3/

Here is a beautiful baby boy nursery.  It looks like there is not a lot of space so they took out the closet doors to have a walk in closet for the clothing, and also the changing table as well.

Another cute organization tip for a baby closet is to keep track of the clothing age like the image below.  Many stores online sell these cute dividers which can help you keep track or find the right size easily.

This closet looks so organized. If you look closely you can see the closet only has two hanger racks and the other storage comes from hanging shoe racks which of course you don't need to use for just shoes.  I have one of these cute racks from IKEA which didn't cost that much.  It's easy to throw things in and keep some kind of organization, but it's easy to see the mess or have things fall out.  You can sometimes buy drawers with these as well to hide the mess.

If you have money to spend or if your house has built in closets, you can fit.... and hide... a lot of clothing and toys.  This was my favorite built in closet with doors.  I also liked how the left side has shelves and the right side has hangers.

Lastly, buying fabric bins is a great way to fill those empty closet shelves for your baby closet/bedroom.  I like this closet how they chose neutral color bins and added the pink tags to match.  If you move, the baby changes bedrooms, or you want to use the bins for something else, you have a neutral color to go with.  Also, you can buy or make liners for these baskets to add pattern or color as well.  Just a thought :)

Good luck my organizing buddies! May your closets be organized!

Pink and White Girl Nursery

Today, I have a cute girl themed nursery with a country style from On To Baby and photographed by Canary Grey Photography.  This designer chose three identical frames to go above the crib.  This is a great way to fill a large wall space and is a cheap option to add fabrics or paper in the frames.  I love the shelves that are different lengths in the bottom corner, during holidays, birthdays, or when this little girl will grow older, they can always change out the decor.

Look at all of the cute frames around the mirror.  They stuck with a white and pink theme and it turned out gorgeous!

Here is the last few pictures from this nursery. What cute little details.  I love the looks right next to the changing table, you can always use the hooks to lay out an outfit for the next day.  This would really help out dad I'm sure :)

Pink and Aqua Bird Nursery

This beautiful pink and aqua nursery was designed by http://www.angelablakephotoblog.com/2012/04/spring-a-new-birth/.  I am so in love with this nursery, I love the structure of this room with the large windows going to the ground and of course the neutral tones.  The tree wall art is amazing and I love how there are many trees not just one.

Here are some more pictures of the same nursery from Onto Baby.  The pops of aqua are amazing, the little birds in aqua are so cute and bring depth especially to the main wall. Look at the mobile up close, great detail and colors.

Here is the other corner of this nursery, what a comfy seat.  Two things that I would do different is buy heavier blackout curtains for the baby to sleep and a larger table next to the chair.

This nursery dresser changing table is amazing! All of the white furniture stands out from the wall color.

Popular Chevron Crib Bedding

Chevron is such a popular pattern right now which you can find in clothes, accessories, room designs, artwork, and more. In baby nurseries this pattern is so darn cute! You can find so many cute colors and put as much, or as little of the pattern as you want.
Here are tons of cute chevron sheets from http://www.babybedding.com for your baby nursery.

I love this gray and yellow nursery.  The colors are so soft and you can see the gray and white chevron in the crib, rocking chair, and curtains. I love the pops of yellow in the little details. You can even see the yellow in the "B" on the pillow on the chair, the ties on the crib, shades on the lights, and hearts on the wall.

Here is the price breakdown for this cute gray and yellow chevron sheets from http://www.babybedding.com
Gray and Yellow Zig Zag Comforter: $119
Yellow sheets: $24

You can always use smaller amounts of chevron like this Owl Nursery.  I like how they put this cute owl bumper and found a matching gray chevron pattern for the crib skirt.

More cute chevron sheets from this cute website.  I love the black and white chevron and polka dots.

My favorite chevron pattern is this mist and gray chevron cribbing.  I love the lightness of the chevron patterns against the white crib and white wall.  The accent lights above are accents and draw your eye from its darker color.  Instead of those lights I would put a big chandelier in this room.
PS. That chevron lamp shade is to die for!

Here are the same mist and gray chevron sheets from this cute website. It is amazing how the same items in a room can look so different from their placement and how things are positioned.

My favorite thing about this pink chevron crib is how they also added a geometric pattern.  It breaks up the pattern nicely.  On the outside of this bumper (which costs $169) is a plain white, you could always put the patterns on the outside and choose a more basic crib skirt ($124).

Here is another pink chevron pattern with gray this time.  Again I love the different patterns they incorporated with the polka dots.  The cute ruffles on top are so darling and definitely the perfect girly touch for this girl nursery.

I personally prefer lighter colors in a nursery but this combination of yellow and green in a nursery would look great.
